About the TFPG
Why You Should Employ TFPG
The primary mission of the TFPG is to promote effective, unbiased leadership in Educational Facilities Planning, Evaluation, and Forecasting Services. We employ focused, strategic planning methods in working with public and independent school systems, and other public agencies. Our vision is to minimize error in planning and forecasting through current technology, valid research, competence, and stakeholder participation.
Qualifications to Provide Services
Planning for educational facilities, evaluating programs, and
forecasting requires a team of people with special traits such as
a wide range of relevant knowledge, training, skills, patience,
and a genuine concern for student outcomes. TFPG makes every
effort to ensure that we employ people that have all of these traits.
Our experienced employees and consultants hold university degrees and
have formal training in the educational planning, evaluation,
forecasting, and architectural process.
History of TFPG ...
The TFPG, actually had its beginning in 1969, when Dr. Ken Tanner completed his first planning activity and student population forecast for the University of Tennessee’s School Planning Laboratory (SPL). Early on, Dr. Tanner was mentored in planning and forecasting processes by pioneers in educational planning and architecture. He has researched planning, evaluation, and forecasting models and led and participated in planning and evaluation activities since the 1970s.
His service to the University of Tennessee continued through 1982,
when he moved to the
University of Georgia to work with the late Dr. Carol McGuffey, a
pioneer in the field of educational facilities planning. He
established the School Design
and Planning
Laboratory (SDPL) at the University of Georgia in 1997. The
SDPL
is a source of research on how the physical environment influences
student behavior and outcomes. In 2005, he formally initiated
TFPG.org.
During the past 35 years, Dr. Tanner has authored over 100 articles and professional papers on planning and research, and he is the lead author on four books on the topic of educational planning. He has worked on numerous planning, evaluation, and forecasting projects in the United States; and is an active member of the CEFPI, AERA, and ISEP. He holds the Recognized Educational Facility Planner Certificate (REFP).
The Current Thrust Around the World is "Green"
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. The TFPG encourages clients to consider using "green principles" in school facilities planing and construction.
We
don't have a "plan in a box" that just
happens to pop out when our planning activities are concluded!
We work with clients that are encumbered and constrained by prototype designs in maximizing modifications to help maintain community identity and culture. The TFPG has a special interest in working with Independent Schools!
